Medicine and Surgey

General surgeons can work in private practice or in continuity of care roles. To complete their training, they can apply (through selective tests) to specialisation schools in the medical, surgical and services areas or to training courses in general medicine.

Career opportunities include:

1. a) work in National Health Service facilities, public bodies and state or private companies
2. b) work in private practice (a medical specialisation diploma is required to practise as a specialist and completion of the training course in general medicine is required to practise as a general practitioner).
3. c) research in the preclinical or clinical field.

The practice of the profession is regulated by state law.The course provides solid theoretical and practical knowledge in the hospital and community settings. The integration of knowledge allows students to acquire a multidisciplinary and innovative view of the most common health and disease problems and a humanistic culture that responds to new healthcare needs centred on a holistic view of the individual.

Medical surgeons can work in private practices or hospitals, within the National Health Service (SSN in Italy) as general practitioners or specialists in public clinics or hospitals, in scientific research at universities or research institutions, or in national or international humanitarian health organisations.
