Master of Design (MDes) at NSCAD University

The Master of Design (MDes) at NSCAD University is an interdisciplinary, two-year, 60-credit graduate program that prepares students to lead the development of new ideas in design. Students pursue practice-led design research, explorations of process, applications of theory, and scholarly writing throughout their degree.

NSCAD's MDes program takes a holistic approach, considering the social, environmental, and technological contexts of design research and innovation. The program offers both studio and classroom courses throughout its duration, allowing students to apply the concepts and theories they learn in seminars directly in studios and workshop facilities.

The interdisciplinary nature of the program makes it an excellent choice for students with diverse academic backgrounds or international experience. By working in interdisciplinary studio environments and teams, students gain experience thinking and collaborating with peers who bring global perspectives to design challenges.
