Curriculum and Modules

The Environmental Monitoring and Assessment diploma is structured across four semesters over two years. During the first semester, you will acquire foundational skills in general sciences including biology, chemistry, communications, ethics, botany, zoology, genetics and lab techniques. Subsequent semesters build specialized environmental monitoring and assessment competencies alongside your Co-Op placement.

General Biology and Chemistry

Foundational coursework in biological and chemical sciences, providing the scientific basis for understanding environmental processes and pollutant behavior in ecosystems.

Botany, Zoology and Genetics

Study of plant biology, animal biology and genetic principles relevant to environmental monitoring, species identification and ecological assessment in field settings.

Environmental Sampling and Assessment

Practical training in collecting and analyzing samples from surface water, groundwater, air, soil and waste to evaluate environmental quality and identify contamination.

Quality Assurance and Quality Control

Application of QA/QC principles to environmental monitoring, including calibration standards, reagent preparation, data validation and regulatory compliance procedures.

Waste Management and Land Reclamation

Strategies for effective waste management, land remediation and reclamation, addressing contaminated sites and restoring environmental quality in impacted areas.

Co-Op Work Placement
