Overview
Why Study Chemistry?
Chemists study matter in its most basic forms—atoms and molecules. By understanding these building blocks, we search for new ways to organize matter into life-saving medicine, space-age materials, and exciting consumer products. Chemistry majors can pursue rewarding careers in research, industry, medicine, education, and much more.
Chemistry Student Learning Outcomes
- Each chemistry major will master fundamental and modern chemistry concepts appropriate for a college graduate.
- Each chemistry major will master fundamental laboratory skills, including observation, analysis, and manipulation of chemical reactions and processes through the use of advanced instrumentation for data collection.
- Each chemistry major can articulate the role of chemistry in describing and preserving our environment, improving the quality of human health, and/or furthering technological advances.
- Each chemistry major will demonstrate critical thinking skills, scientific literacy, discipline specific communication skills, and a capacity to contribute to the scientific community.
