Why Study Advertising?
Successful advertising understands the needs and wants of consumers—and then responds creatively. Learn how to think critically about culture and communication while also taking into account the nuances of business and the marketplace. A degree in advertising will prepare you for a broad range of careers in agencies, marketing departments in private and nonprofit organizations, media companies, public relations firms, retailers, sports teams, and more.
Advertising Student Learning Outcomes
- Students will apply knowledge of basic economic principles, marketing principles, communication, legal issues, operations management and statistics, accounting, management, leadership, information technology, nonprofit management principles, strategy and financial principles as they apply to the contemporary business and nonprofit environment.
- Students will identify ethical issues existing in the workplace and apply relevant ethical standards and frameworks for their prevention and/or resolution.
- Students will demonstrate professional business communication using different modalities.
Advertising Program Requirements
Students completing the requirements for a bachelor of arts (BA) or bachelor of science (BS) degree in advertising will be prepared to enter the business and nonprofit advertising and communications world as ethical leaders, able to work well with diverse groups of people, and able to communicate effectively in professional settings.

120 total credits for graduation
An internship is strongly recommended

68 hours of major course work
120 total credits for graduation
Students are required to complete an internship (BSE 4970) or to provide documentation of other work experience.
