Biomedical Science - Clinical Biochemistry MSc

Biomedical Science (Clinical Biochemistry) MSc is designed to develop advanced knowledge and practical expertise in the biochemical processes underlying human health and disease, with a strong emphasis on clinical diagnostics and laboratory applications. The programme explores how changes in biochemical markers relate to conditions such as endocrine disorders, metabolic diseases, and pregnancy-related complications, enabling accurate diagnosis and monitoring of patients. Teaching is delivered by research-active academics, many of whom are leading experts in their fields, ensuring exposure to current scientific developments and innovations in areas such as cancer research, haematology, and infectious diseases. Students gain hands-on experience using advanced laboratory technologies, including virtual laboratory simulations, MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry, and flow cytometry, while also developing skills in experimental design, data analysis, and interpretation. The curriculum supports the development of professional competencies required for laboratory leadership roles, including management, consultancy, and quality assurance. Accredited by the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS), the programme meets industry standards and supports career progression within hospital laboratories, private healthcare, and the pharmaceutical and diagnostics sectors, as well as further academic study at doctoral level.
