Overview

**REAL ESTATE (MINOR)**

The Real Estate Minor prepares O’Malley School of Business students for careers in real estate acquisitions and development, property management, asset management, and financial analysis.

**Why Choose Real Estate?**

The Real Estate Minor is designed to provide O’Malley School of Business students with the strategic, analytical, and experiential tools to work in the fast-paced, ever-evolving world of real estate. The tools students will learn in the Real Estate Minor, combined with their overall O'Malley School of Business curriculum, will result in a well-rounded graduate ready for today’s multifaceted business environment.

Specific areas of emphasis include:

- **Development:** Entrepreneurs and business executives build new properties and renovate existing properties to generate income, property appreciation, development fees, economic growth, and employment.

- **Finance and Investment:** Business leaders must finance their locations using internal funds, debt, or equity. Business locations should compensate organizations for risk and provide an adequate ROI that exceeds the internal and external cost-of-funds.

- **Design and Construction:** Construction projects should be properly managed to ensure adequate planning, quality design, and a safe and secure construction process.

- **Sales:** The sales and marketing of properties are crucial in real estate. Real estate brokers and agents ensure that the real estate market is liquid and that individuals and companies looking for real estate can find a location efficiently and effectively.

- **Home and Work Environment:** Employees must have work environments that are safe, secure, motivating, and foster collaboration. Individuals need homes and cultural institutions that are attractive, functional, and safe.

- **Environmental Impact:** Developers should utilize green building practices that lead to healthy and environmentally responsible design and construction, address the changing climate, and encourage healthy living for all.
