Overview

What is Agricultural and Extension Education?

Do you want to teach life-changing lessons and do not mind getting your hands dirty? LSU’s Agricultural and Extension Education major prepares the next generation to step into future roles as educators and extension professionals in their local communities. They assist farmers and gardeners in producing better crops, teach families healthy eating habits, and help high schoolers discover a passion for plants and animals.

Why study Agricultural and Extension Education at LSU?

With a focus on improving the industry through public awareness, LSU students are taught effective teaching methods to inform the public of sustainable agriculture methods. These strategies lead to careers in formal environments such as high schools and informal environments such as the cooperative extension service.

Concentrations

Concentrations are offered in Teaching in Formal Education and Agricultural Leadership and Development. Students interested in the Agricultural Education major should contact the Department of Agricultural and Extension Education and Evaluation for deadlines and specific details about each concentration.

Students who are considering the Teaching in Formal Education concentration for teacher certification should inform a faculty advisor when the undergraduate program of study is being developed.
