The Systems Engineering MSc at Loughborough University is designed in collaboration with industry to address the growing challenge of interdependence between sophisticated engineered systems. Curriculum and Modules

The Systems Engineering MSc curriculum is structured around core modules that develop your systems thinking, architecture, and design capabilities, complemented by a range of optional modules allowing you to tailor the programme to your interests. The programme is block-taught, with intensive on-campus study weeks followed by coursework submission periods, and includes both a group project and an individual capstone project.

Applied Systems Thinking

15 credits

Develops your ability to adopt a holistic approach to addressing systems problems. You will learn systems thinking tools and how to select the most appropriate methods for the challenge at hand.

Systems Architecture

15 credits

Provides practical knowledge of systems from a model-based and architectural viewpoint, including an understanding of system and enterprise architecture frameworks and their application.

Systems Design

15 credits

Covers design and requirements engineering from a systems and model-based perspective, including system modelling languages, verification and validation, and the use of commercially available tools aligned to ISO/IEC 15288.

Systems Group Project

15 credits

Develops expertise in the planning and execution of an extensive systems project as a team member, consolidating knowledge through the integrated application of systems engineering tools and techniques.

MSc Individual Project

60 credits

Provides the opportunity to conduct a research or development project on a topic relevant to your programme of study, developing key skills needed to plan, manage, and deliver a complex extended project.

Enterprise and Capability Engineering

15 credits

Explores enterprise-level systems management and the engineering and management of capability, equipping you with the business perspective needed for delivering complex systems within organisations.
