Long Island University (LIU) is a private research university chartered in 1926 by the New York State Education Department in Brooklyn, New York. The Brooklyn campus is the original unit and first of two main campuses in the LIU system, situated in the heart of Downtown Brooklyn at the intersection of Flatbush and DeKalb Avenues. LIU Brooklyn is known for offering more professional programs in health care than any other campus in the New York metropolitan area.
