Program Overview: PGCE Secondary English with Drama

The PGCE Secondary English with Drama at London Metropolitan University trains you to teach English and Drama to 11-to-16-year-olds, with additional opportunities to gain experience with the post-16 age group. Led by experienced industry professionals with wide-ranging experience in London secondary schools, the program combines university-based study with extensive school placements to prepare you as an effective school practitioner.

The program is run collaboratively with the English and Media Centre (EMC), an award-winning educational charity whose tutors provide support throughout the course. You will explore the role of the teacher as a creative agent, with partnerships with local theatre companies allowing you to make strong links between your love of drama and English and the practical skills needed in the classroom.

Grounded in London Met's Education for Social Justice model, this course develops critically aware and reflective practitioners who are confident teaching with creativity and imagination. By the end of the program, you will have gained the skills to become a teacher of Drama, a teacher of English, or a teacher of both English and Drama, leading to a recommendation for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
