PGCE Secondary English at London Metropolitan University

The PGCE Secondary English at London Metropolitan University is designed to provide you with the key expertise, skills, and curriculum knowledge required to teach English confidently to students in Key Stages 3 and 4. The course also aims to arrange experience in teaching sixth form, should you wish to broaden your teaching range.

This course combines 9 weeks of university-based learning with 25 weeks of school placements, enabling you to immerse yourself in two different schools and build your expertise and confidence as a teacher of English. You will learn how to communicate your passion for English through effective and inspiring teaching in diverse and multicultural urban environments.

At the end of this Secondary English PGCE course, you will be assessed for accreditation with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), which is the essential professional accreditation for all teachers in England. This master's-level qualification prepares you to work in and adapt to a range of secondary school environments, teaching English to students aged 11 and up.

Curriculum and Course Modules

The PGCE Secondary English curriculum blends university-based academic study with extensive school-based practical training. Admission Requirements

Entry to the PGCE Secondary English is competitive, with places offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Applicants must demonstrate strong subject knowledge in English and a genuine passion for teaching.
