Overview
The language of education of the Cinema and Television Thesis Master's Program, which will start accepting students in the Fall semester of the 2023-2024 academic year, is English. In addition to acquiring the current professional knowledge and experience required by the Cinema and Television sector, the students who will graduate from this program are aimed to be individuals who are equipped to adapt this knowledge and experience to new conditions, who can analyze the social, political, cultural and economic effects of communication systems, who have a strong social science formation, have a critical perspective, are equipped with professional ethics, are sensitive to social events, respect differences, are open to new perspectives, can ask their own questions, follow developments in our country and the world, try to understand social, cultural, political and economic realities, have reading, writing, listening and speaking skills in Turkish and English, and have adopted an interdisciplinary way of thinking.
The Department of Cinema and Television aims
to be an academic research and teaching center that provides postgraduate education in the field of cinema and television, contributes to the development of communication science research both in our country and abroad by conducting scientific research in the fields of media systems, mass communication processes, television and film studies, visual culture, and new communication technologies, and strives to fulfill its mission of serving the society with the graduates it trains, the applications it develops, the seminars it offers, and the academic support it provides to the media sector.
The Cinema and Television thesis-based master's program will provide its students with the professional equipment that will meet the needs of the society we live in as well as the needs of the different cultural geographies around us, will provide the opportunity for communication to be structured in a way that will make sense internationally as well as locally, and will try to serve to balance the one-sided flow of communication from the West to the East. Today, the mass communication sector is gradually expanding its scope, and the profile of qualified communicators and media professionals who will serve this sector
The need for professionals is increasing. In parallel with this, the increasing centralization of the media's impact on the social life we live in also highlights the illumination of this field with successful academic research as an added value.
The teaching staff of the program consists of academics who are well-versed in their fields of application, have scientific formation in social and human sciences, can closely follow academic discussions in their fields worldwide and examine events from an interdisciplinary perspective and by focusing on the relationship between the local and the global, produce new information in different areas of communication, care about research, application and development studies, can open these studies to discussion, are aware of innovations and developments in communication, can use these technologies effectively in classes, always have the ideal of learning and instill this in their students.
