LL.B. Business Law (German/English)
Dortmund Campus, Germany
The B.Sc. in Business Law at ISM is a full-time undergraduate program that offers students a comprehensive education at the intersection of law and business. It equips students with in-depth knowledge of legal frameworks and solid management fundamentals, preparing them to understand and navigate complex legal challenges in an increasingly globalized economy. The curriculum is designed to build a strong foundation in business administration, economics, and mathematical analysis, while integrating key areas of commercial and corporate law relevant to modern enterprises.
Throughout the course of study, students are introduced to the basics of the German Civil Code (BGB), civil law, and contract law, laying the groundwork for understanding how legal systems function in both national and international contexts. Building upon this, students deepen their expertise in areas such as employment law, corporate law, intellectual property, compliance, and data protection regulations, enabling them to assess legal risks and provide strategic guidance in business operations.
The program emphasizes practical relevance and application, offering case-based learning, legal simulations, and opportunities to engage in real-world business scenarios where law plays a central role. Specialized modules allow students to tailor their focus to specific interests, such as mergers and acquisitions, international business law, or tax and financial law. This targeted knowledge makes graduates well-suited for legal advisory roles in companies, law firms, consultancies, or regulatory bodies.
In addition to legal training, ISM strongly emphasizes the development of soft skills and intercultural competencies. Courses in foreign languages, rhetoric, negotiation, and leadership are integrated throughout the program, preparing students to communicate effectively and operate confidently in international environments. A mandatory semester abroad at one of ISM’s many partner universities provides students with global exposure and insight into different legal systems and business cultures.
Students also gain hands-on experience through internships and company projects that are embedded in the curriculum, helping them translate their legal knowledge into professional practice. ISM’s close partnerships with law firms, multinational corporations, and public institutions give students valuable networking opportunities and early insights into potential career paths.
Graduates of the B.Sc. in Business Law program are prepared to work in legal departments of international companies, compliance and risk management, consulting firms, or pursue further studies in law or business administration. With its interdisciplinary structure, global orientation, and focus on real-world application, the program provides a strong platform for a successful career in both legal and business sectors.
