Social Work BA
Main Campus, United States
Eureka College, in partnership with Methodist College, offers a unique 2+2 Social Work program designed for students who want to combine the benefits of a small, residential liberal arts college experience with a professionally focused social work education. This program allows students to begin their higher education journey at Eureka College, benefiting from close faculty mentorship, small class sizes, and a supportive campus community while laying the foundation for a career in social work.
During the first two years at Eureka College, students complete their general education requirements, ensuring a well-rounded academic background. In addition to traditional coursework, students remain actively engaged in social work through specialized courses taught at Eureka by instructors accredited by Methodist College. These courses provide early exposure to social work concepts, ethical frameworks, and foundational skills essential for future professional practice. Students also gain hands-on experience through service hours, completing 50 hours at Eureka College and 15 hours specifically in Methodist College Social Work activities, reinforcing classroom learning with practical engagement in the field.
After successfully completing the first two years, students transfer to Methodist College to focus primarily on professional social work coursework. At Methodist College, students engage in advanced studies, including experiential practica, fieldwork, and specialized seminars designed to prepare them for careers in social services, community organizations, healthcare, and other social work-related fields. The program emphasizes both theoretical knowledge and applied skills, ensuring graduates are ready to make meaningful contributions to individuals, families, and communities.
To remain eligible for the program, students must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.50 or higher and successfully complete all lower-division and general education courses at Eureka College. Upon completion of the 2+2 program, students are awarded a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree from Methodist College, equipping them with the credentials, skills, and experience necessary to pursue licensure or enter the social work profession directly.
This 2+2 pathway combines the best of both institutions: the liberal arts foundation, personal growth, and residential college experience at Eureka College, paired with the professional preparation, practical training, and career-focused curriculum of Methodist College’s accredited social work program. Students emerge with a robust academic background, practical field experience, and a strong network of faculty and peers to support their future social work careers.
