Woodworking Technology (Optional Co-op) Program Overview
The Woodworking Technology (Optional Co-op) program is a three-year advanced diploma delivered at the Woodworking Centre of Ontario, one of the most advanced woodworking training facilities in North America. It provides students with theoretical and applied knowledge of the technology and skills involved in the efficient, quality-conscious manufacture of furniture, cabinets, and architectural millwork.
Throughout the program, you will gain hands-on experience with woodworking machinery and equipment including laminating, veneering, machining, sanding, assembly, and finishing. The final year focuses on plant layout and support systems, materials handling, quality control, cost estimating, and computer-aided drafting.
The optional co-op stream includes three co-op work terms, giving you the opportunity to connect classroom learning with real industrial experience. Levels 1, 2, and 3 of the trade schooling for an Ontario Cabinetmaker Apprenticeship are embedded in the program, providing a recognized advantage when entering the workforce.

Curriculum and Modules
The Woodworking Technology program is structured across six academic semesters over three years. The first two years are common with the Woodworking Technician program, building a strong foundation in practical skills and production management, while the third year develops advanced technical and supervisory competencies.
Learn the set-up, operation, and maintenance of hand tools, power tools, and a wide range of production machinery and equipment used in wood products manufacturing. Topics include safe working practices and compliance with applicable legislation.
Introduction to drafting fundamentals from free-hand sketching to 2D computer-aided design. Students create detailed technical drawings for woodworking using AutoCAD and Inventor Solid Modeling software.
Extensive project work involving the manufacturing of kitchen cabinets and architectural millwork. Students apply kitchen cabinet software in the manufacture of kitchens, vanities, and architectural casework.
Develop theoretical and practical skills in implementing quality control programs, including analysis and recording tools, methods of identifying variables, and application of statistical quality control techniques in a woodworking environment.
Explore the concepts of computer-integrated manufacturing and apply the principles of computer control in the woodworking manufacturing environment, including CNC programming and processing for various woodworking equipment.
