An optional co-op stream is available, providing you with valuable industry work experience to complement your academic training.

Curriculum & Modules

The Welding Engineering Technician - Robotics curriculum blends theoretical knowledge with extensive practical training across four academic levels. You will progress from foundational welding processes and technical mathematics to advanced robotic welding systems, CAD/CAM applications, and welding quality control, ensuring you are fully prepared for a career in the manufacturing automation sector.

Welding Processes Applications

Hands-on skills training in various welding processes including oxy-fuel welding (OFW), shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), and gas metal arc welding (GMAW) in flat and horizontal positions.

Robotic Welding Systems

Explores robotic system safety, sensors, start-up, and maintenance. Students gain experience in theoretical and practical welding system applications and troubleshooting including RSW and GMAW processes.

Technical Mathematics

An applications-oriented mathematics course utilizing arithmetic, algebra, trigonometry, geometry, and statistics to solve technically oriented problems relevant to fabrication, quality control, robotics, and computer applications.

Technical Drawing and Blueprint Reading

Introduces basic principles and concepts of technical drawings including orthographic projections, sections, dimensioning and tolerancing, notes, specifications, and welding symbols for interpreting welded fabrication engineering drawings.

Welding Quality and Inspection

Studies welding quality from a perspective of defect identification, reviewing cause, effect, and corrective actions. Covers weld quality troubleshooting and diagnostic analysis of welding applications, as well as inspection and testing methods.

CAD/CAM for Fabrication Operations

Develops computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) skills for fabrication operations, including CNC thermal cutting applications and off-line robotic simulation programming.

Admission Requirements

Admission to the Welding Engineering Technician - Robotics program requires completion of secondary school with specific English and Mathematics prerequisites.
