Program Overview: Pre-Health Sciences Pathway to Certificates and Diplomas
The Pre-Health Sciences Pathway to Certificates and Diplomas at Conestoga College is designed for students who wish to concentrate on the health sciences field and prepare for application to Conestoga's School of Health and Life Sciences certificate and diploma programs. Over two terms of full-time study, you will be introduced to the health sciences field, college life and academic workload, and will build the competitiveness needed to strengthen your application to health sciences programs.
This program combines classroom theory with practical learning opportunities to help you understand the demands of college life and the healthcare field. You will gain foundational knowledge in biology, chemistry, mathematics and health sciences while developing essential study skills and academic readiness for further education.
Graduates of this pathway are eligible to apply to several of Conestoga's health-related certificate and diploma programs, including Biotechnology Technician, Fitness and Health Promotion, Hearing Instrument Specialist, Practical Nursing, Nutrition and Food Service Management, and Occupational Therapist Assistant/Physiotherapist Assistant. A five-mark bonus is granted to applicants who have successfully completed this program when applying to eligible Conestoga health programs.

Curriculum and Course Modules
The Pre-Health Sciences Pathway to Certificates and Diplomas curriculum spans two semesters and provides foundational knowledge across key health sciences disciplines. Courses are designed to build your academic skills, introduce core science concepts, and prepare you for success in competitive health programs at Conestoga College.
This introductory course provides a basic biology background for students with little or no previous science exposure, covering fundamental concepts of the human body.
Examine fundamental biological concepts, processes and systems of the human body, including the structure, function and properties of cells, tissues and organ systems in relation to homeostasis and health.
Examine fundamental concepts of chemistry including matter and chemical bonding, quantities in chemical reactions, solutions and solubility, acids and bases, as well as organic compounds in relation to health and the human body.
Solve basic numeric problems and interpret data related to health sciences using mathematical concepts including algebra, basic probability and descriptive statistics.
Students will use the Microsoft Office application suite to create and format academic documents, professional electronic presentations and spreadsheets while developing effective digital filing strategies.
