Program Overview: Mobile Solutions Development
Mobile Solutions Development (MSD) is a four-semester graduate certificate program that prepares students with specialized knowledge and skills to design, develop, and distribute interactive solutions for multiple mobile and web-based platforms. The program includes a one-semester exploration of career management or an optional co-op work term in the mobile software industry.
You will gain a strong practical background in mobile solutions design and development encompassing different devices, operating systems, database and network infrastructures, as well as software quality and security aspects of mobile solutions development. Students are also exposed to entrepreneurial thinking as part of their design work, with an emphasis on solving the needs of the customer or client.
The program features a hands-on focus, including a capstone project opportunity where students design and implement a custom mobile solution meeting customer specifications. Courses are taught by highly qualified industry experts, ensuring you graduate with current, industry-relevant skills.

The Mobile Solutions Development program covers a comprehensive range of topics including systems analysis and design, user experience design, mobile device-specific development, cross-platform portability, database design and implementation, web development for mobile platforms, and entrepreneurship. Students utilize an object-oriented programming language to create software solutions addressing various business challenges, exploring key concepts such as variables, decision-making, scope, functions, loops, arrays, and object-oriented principles.
Students design and develop native applications for Android and iOS platforms using current development tools and standards, with emphasis on performance, network reliability, deployment, testing, and debugging.
Focuses on designing intuitive and effective user interfaces for various mobile platforms that leverage evolving mobile device capabilities, ensuring mobile usability across devices.
Students learn to design, develop, and deploy databases and applications to meet stakeholder requirements, covering back-end infrastructure essential for mobile solutions.
Students apply existing Android and iOS development experience to create apps for smartwatches and other wearables, including Wear OS development and designing great user experiences for wearable devices.

- Co-op Stream RequirementMinimum overall 80% session weighted average in Level 1 with no dropped or failed courses to be considered for the co-op stream
