Program Overview: Animation BA at Budapest Metropolitan University

The Animation BA at Budapest Metropolitan University (METU) prepares you to become a skilled animation designer capable of working on complex productions in advertising, electronic media, motion pictures, digital post-production, and game design. Offered through the Faculty of Arts and Creative Industries, this three-year program covers both traditional and digital animation techniques, giving you a well-rounded foundation in the art and craft of animation.

Throughout the program, you will explore the full animation production pipeline — from initial concept development and scriptwriting through storyboarding, animatics, animation, and post-production. You will gain hands-on experience with industry-standard software for editing, compositing, and both 2D and 3D animation, while also learning sound design to create complete audiovisual works from start to finish.

From the third semester, you can choose a specialization in either Animation (focusing on 2D digital and classical techniques such as puppet and drawing animation) or 3D Animation (emphasizing modelling, 3D visual design, and effects). METU's animation students have earned recognition at prestigious international festivals, including Annecy, the London International Animation Festival, and the Cannes Film Festival Short Film Corner.

Key Program Highlights

  • Two specialization tracks available from the third semester: Animation (2D/Classical) and 3D Animation
  • Award-winning program with student films recognized at Annecy, KAFF, and international animation festivals
  • Hands-on training with industry-standard digital filmmaking, compositing, and animation software
  • Strong industry partnerships with studios such as Cinemon Studio, KGB Animation Studio, and MTVA
