2022

METU opens its new art campus at Infopark, providing a modern and well-equipped new home for students and workers previously based at the Rottenbiller and Egressy campuses.


2021

The first myBRAND final exams are held. The first students with their entire degree program based on our innovative portfolio-based education method receive their diplomas.


2020

In 2020, METU becomes the University of Creative Industries, building upon our unique portfolio-based education method, myBRAND. The mission of the University of Creative Industries is to teach our students for life. Providing a supportive, student-focused environment, we educate motivated, cooperative, and resourceful creators who will be able to fulfil their potential in every aspect of life.


2019

Our unique training program, myBRAND was introduced on our English programs as well. The program is designed to boost students' employability and is now an integral part of education at METU. 


2018

On the 1st of October, the President of Hungary induced a new rector into office. The new rector, Prof. Dr. Bálint Bachmann DLA, replaced Dr. Habil László Vass after 17 years. The Recor Emeritus, Dr. Vass, is still an active member of the professional community of METU.

Our Marketing MSc course received accreditation in English. The program will be launched in 2019 for the first time.

METU organized its second TEDx event in Hungarian.


2017

METU organized its first ever TEDx event in Hungarian, titled the "Apples of Knowledge”.

Zsófia Laposa's "4hegy" olaszrizling became the official wine of METU.


2016

Not only did we pass through a successful change of name, but as of January 1st, we also changed our status by becoming Budapest Metropolitan University (METU). The change brings benefits to current and future students of the institution, the practice- and market-oriented approach continues and the value of METU degrees grows on both national and international level.


2015

METU raised its capital considerably this year. The purpose of the investment was to promote the domestic and international expansion of the BKF, launch new courses, strengthen English language courses, and attract international students through international transactions. We also reached a milestone this year. As the largest art faculty in the country, the Budapest College of Communication and Business no longer expressed our university's variety of education; From September our students could start their studies at the Budapest Metropolitan University of Applied Sciences.


2014

The Institute of Media Arts moves to a new building - our Rottenbiller Campus opens its gates for art students.


2012

The number of international partnerships reaches over 50, on 3 continents.


2011

METU is 10 years old!

Two undergraduate programs (Commerce and Marketing, Tourism and Catering) are launched at the brand new Metropolitan Regional Knowledge Centre in Hódmezővásárhely, in the south of Hungary.

The number of students studying at Metropolitan increases above 7,000.

The reconstructed Rózsa Street campus opens its gates for art, tourism and catering students.

Two new graduate programs are launched: those interested may apply for the Communication and Media Studies and the Management and Leadership master programs.

The Creative Talent of the Year, a prize founded by Metropolitan is awarded the first time. Metropolitan launches its Creative and Business Thinking competition for secondary schools students.

Heller Farkas College of Economics and Tourism merges into Budapest College of Communication, Business and Arts. With this merger, Metropolitan becomes the largest private college in Hungary. Now Students can attend programs in the field of Business, Communication, Tourism and Arts in two faculties.

The number of students exceeds 2000.

The College performs its activities in accordance with the principles laid down by the Bologna Declaration. The new graduate programs are the following: International Economics, Public Services, Business and Management and Communication and Media Studies.

The first graduation ceremony was held in 2005.

Students learn in a pleasant, up-to-date environment consisting of recently renovated buildings and a newly built structure in a beautiful park, in a surrounding residential atmosphere. The new multifunctional building was the first investment of nearly 1 billion HUF, co-financed by the EU in higher education.

New programs at MET: European Public Services and Business Organizer.

WiFi network covers the whole territory of BKB.

The number of students exceeds 1000.

MET becomes an accredited institution of adult education and is entitled to operate as an ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence) training and exam Center. In addition to this, the Languages Department of the College (functioning also as an official exam Center for the TOEIC language exams) organizes specialized and general language courses. Metropolitan establishes the Career Center, in order to help students make a smooth transition to the labor market.

Education at Metropolitan began in 2001 with 126 students in the Communication and Business Communication field.
