Accounting

Here at Algoma U, our students have a fundamental understanding of accounting concepts and principles needed to succeed in life and in their future career. Students will gain a strong understanding of managerial accounting, income taxation, finance, auditing, and analysis of general and management practices. Students will develop the intellectual ability to effectively organize, manage and lead teams, analyze and solve complex problems while leveraging new innovations and creative solutions, conduct themselves in an ethical and professional manner, and develop and execute business decisions using effective communication techniques.

Another unique aspect of our program is that it provides students with a pathway into an array of accounting career opportunities, including the opportunity to pursue the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation after graduation. It also helps prepare students to become a Certified Financial Planner (CFP), and courses are recognized by the Aboriginal Financial Officers Association of Canada (AFOA), which can prepare students to become Certified Aboriginal Financial Managers (CAFM certification). A degree in accounting, complemented with a professional designation, makes graduates of increased value to employers, and enhances their employment prospects after graduation
