Animation MA

The MA Animation at UWE Bristol is a full‑time, practice‑led programme delivered over three intensive terms and lasting twelve months. Students develop advanced concepts of animation as an art form while engaging with contemporary storytelling technologies and emerging media platforms. The curriculum sequences learning from an initial term that explores research‑driven creative proposals, through a second term that refines pre‑production assets and production techniques, to a final term in which a major project is realized and publicly screened. Instruction combines practice‑oriented lectures, seminars, workshops and tutorials led by an acclaimed team of industry professionals, and makes extensive use of state‑of‑the‑art animation studios, sound recording suites, fabrication workshops and digital resources at the Bower Ashton campus. Assessment reflects professional practice through portfolios, presentations, reflective writing and practical outcomes, and students benefit from accreditation by ScreenSkills, access to technical facilities, and connections with leading animation studios such as Aardman. The programme supports the development of enterprise skills, professional identity and networking within the creative economy, preparing graduates for careers in film production, character animation, production design and related fields.
