With roots dating back to 1827 when it was established as the Wolverhampton Tradesmen's and Mechanics' Institute, the university has nearly 200 years of heritage in providing accessible, career-focused education.
In 1969, the Wolverhampton College of Technology merged with the Wolverhampton College of Art to form Wolverhampton Polytechnic. The polytechnic was granted full university status in 1992, becoming the University of Wolverhampton.
