Filmmaking & Screen Writing BA

This BA Filmmaking & Screen Writing programme combines three core strands: practical film production, screenwriting, and film studies. You’ll develop skills across key production roles, build confidence in storytelling and scriptwriting, and explore film as an artform to enhance your creative and research abilities.

Teaching is delivered by industry professionals using modern film equipment, studios, and performance spaces. You’ll also benefit from masterclasses with experienced writers, directors, and producers, alongside access to facilities at Film City, Glasgow.

In Year 1, you’ll gain hands-on experience in digital filmmaking and scriptwriting while exploring film aesthetics and industry context. Year 2 focuses on short film production, documentary work, post-production skills, and expanding your screenwriting portfolio.

In Year 3, you’ll take on more ambitious projects, specialise in areas of interest, and choose options such as work-based learning or television writing.

In Year 4 (Honours), you’ll complete a major creative project in your chosen specialism, alongside optional modules such as experimental film or feature screenplay writing, preparing you for careers in the creative industries.
