Program Overview: M.Sc. Autonomous Systems

The Master of Science in Autonomous Systems at the University of Stuttgart is an interdisciplinary program that prepares you to design, develop, and deploy systems capable of operating safely, reliably, and efficiently in complex environments. Spanning fields from mobile robotics to intelligent transport and automated manufacturing, the program addresses the growing demand for engineers who can bridge multiple technical disciplines.

This program is a cooperation between three faculties: Computer Science, Electrical Engineering and Information Technology; Energy-, Process- and Bio-Engineering; and Engineering Design, Production Engineering and Automotive Engineering. Curriculum and Modules

The M.Sc. Autonomous Systems curriculum is structured across four semesters and integrates knowledge from computer science, electrical engineering, and mechanical engineering. Students build a strong theoretical foundation before specializing through elective modules and completing a master's thesis in the final semester.

Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence

6 ECTS

Covers foundational and advanced methods in machine learning and AI, including supervised and unsupervised learning, neural networks, and their application to autonomous decision-making systems.

Robotics and Sensor Systems

6 ECTS

Explores the principles of robotic systems including kinematics, dynamics, sensor integration, and actuator control for both stationary and mobile robots.

Control and Automation Engineering

6 ECTS

Focuses on control theory, feedback systems, and automation techniques essential for designing autonomous systems that respond adaptively to their environments.

Signal Processing and Information Technology

6 ECTS

Provides knowledge in digital signal processing, data acquisition, and information extraction techniques used in autonomous perception and communication systems.

Decision Making and Planning

6 ECTS

Covers algorithms and methods for autonomous decision-making, path planning, and optimization under uncertainty in complex real-world scenarios.

Master's Thesis

30 ECTS

An independent research project conducted in the final semester, allowing you to apply your acquired knowledge to a cutting-edge topic in autonomous systems under faculty supervision.

Admission Requirements

The M.Sc. Autonomous Systems is designed for graduates who hold a relevant bachelor's degree and wish to deepen their expertise in interdisciplinary autonomous systems engineering.
