Archaeology Palaeoanthropology (MSc)
Highfield Campus, United Kingdom
Specialized instruction in palaeoanthropology encompasses the handling and interpretation of stone tools, as well as an evaluation of the role of evolutionary models, experimental testing, primatological data, and ethnographies in the study of human origins. Methodologies for deriving meaning from lithic collections are developed, complemented by training in the use of SPSS statistical analysis software. Furthermore, topics such as Palaeolithic symbolism, language, migration, and adaptive responses to environmental change are rigorously examined.
Beyond the core specialist modules, the MSc in Palaeoanthropology may be tailored to specific research interests. Expertise is synthesized from diverse faculties across the University—including Medicine, Humanities, the National Oceanography Centre, Engineering, and the Winchester School of Art—to facilitate the acquisition of both scientific technical skills and cultural understanding through a range of optional modules.
