Archaeology (MSc)
Avenue Campus, United Kingdom
The MSc in Archaeology allows for the personalisation of studies according to specific interests without the requirement to specialise in a single area. Expertise is drawn from across the University—including the National Oceanography Centre, Humanities, Medicine, Engineering, and the Winchester School of Art—to facilitate the acquisition of both scientific skills and cultural understanding through various optional modules. Skill development is approached practically, while also incorporating theoretical and period-based insights. Full access is granted to dedicated facilities and specialist instruction, including a dedicated library, substantial collections of stone tools, hominin skulls, and human and animal skeletons, alongside specialist isotope laboratories and a scanning, imaging, and micro-CT suite.
Furthermore, established connections with leading heritage institutions and companies allow for a four-week placement opportunity. This component ensures valuable real-world experience within the archaeology sector and heritage industry, with previous placements occurring at organisations such as Historic England, Wessex Archaeology, and The Nautical Archaeology Society.
