Advanced Biological Sciences (MRes)

The MRes Advanced Biological Sciences degree facilitates the development of specialist knowledge and practical skills, allowing for the acquisition of in-depth understanding regarding a selected research topic. Original research is conducted with support from experts at the University of Southampton, fostering hands-on abilities in collecting and critically evaluating biological data, problem-solving, and effective communication. This program serves as excellent preparation for future PhD research or careers across a wide range of industries. The flexible, research-focused curriculum permits concentration on specific interests, with specialization options available in cell and developmental biology, microbiology, neuroscience, molecular and precision bioscience, plants and food security, or ecology and evolution. Distinct from a standard MSc, the structure places greater emphasis on the research project rather than taught components.
