Archaeology
University of Rostock 18051 Rostock, Germany
The goal of the discipline is to create a vivid picture of ancient culture through the analysis and interpretation of material evidence, taking written records into account. The focus is on monuments of fine art, all other objects and buildings from ancient times, and landscapes to the extent that they have been altered by humans. Methods include the classification of objects and their cultural-historical interpretation, as well as archaeological excavations and surface investigations. The objectives of the course are: to impart basic knowledge of ancient monuments, to train visual memory, to verbalize and communicate complex, initially only visually perceivable, facts in a differentiated and problem-oriented manner, and to develop a flexible and critical methodological awareness. In addition to the specialist training, key qualifications for a wide range of professional activities are imparted: structured thinking, interdisciplinary work, communication skills, handling of new media and presentation techniques, and modern foreign languages.
