Musicology (BA)

What is the course about?

One focus of the program is musical theater. Alternatively, you can choose artistic training in the form of instrumental or vocal instruction, or perhaps even conducting or composition/music theory. The analysis of compositions, recordings, and productions is just as important as a critical examination of the social functions of music, its cultural-historical contexts, and the interactions between composers, performers, and audiences.

A special feature of the program is the high proportion of field-related practical work in the form of project work, internships, and courses on (digital) editing, presentation, and communication techniques. The broad range of courses offered by the Department of Musicology, the University of Paderborn, and the Detmold University of Music offers you extensive options for an interest-driven, individualized course of study.
