The Master of Science in Computer Science at Paderborn University is a research-oriented program that builds on your undergraduate training to deepen formal, algorithmic, and mathematical competences. Curriculum and Modules
The M.Sc. Computer Science program totals 120 ECTS spread over four semesters. You complete nine compulsory elective modules (6 ECTS each) from at least two focus areas, with at least three modules in your chosen specialization. The program also includes a one-year project group, two seminars, a general studies component, and a final Master's thesis.
Focus Area Modules (Specialization)
54 ECTS (9 x 6 ECTS)Nine compulsory elective modules chosen from the five focus areas. At least three modules must be completed in your chosen specialization area, with modules from at least two different focus areas required overall.
Project Group
20 ECTSA one-year collaborative project in which a team of 8 to 16 students works as a self-organized group on a research-related topic under the supervision of a faculty member.
Seminar Modules
10 ECTS (2 x 5 ECTS)Two research-oriented seminars that train you in scientific working methods, academic writing, and presentation skills, preparing you for independent research work.
General Studies / Subsidiary Subject
12 ECTSInterdisciplinary electives or an optional subsidiary subject to broaden your academic horizon. Language courses, including German for non-native speakers, are recommended options.
Master's Thesis
