History (Women's, Gender and Queer History) MSt

The MSt is structured as a high-pressure nine-month journey into the "Histories of Identity," designed for those who seek to refine their research identity through a concentrated course of study. The program profile emphasizes a "Flexible Specialization" model, where about one-third of the faculty possess research interests in these fields, allowing students to combine their thematic focus with expert training in specific periods or regions. Students gain the competency to navigate the historical and historiographical context of their work, supported by the Hillary Rodham Clinton Chair of Women’s History and the Jonathan Cooper Chair in the History of Sexuality. This approach ensures that researchers can engage with global intellectual currents while mastering the technical skills needed for original inquiry. A core pillar of the curriculum is the integration into the faculty’s lively research culture, featuring specialist seminars, discussion groups, and the Annual Lecture in Women’s History.
