Curriculum and Modules
The BEng Mechanical Engineering program is divided into two parts. Part I covers the common first year, providing a foundation in fundamental engineering subjects. Part II spans Years 2, 3, and 4, with approximately five modules per semester, progressively building specialist knowledge and culminating in a major individual project.
Develops mathematical competency essential for mechanical engineering, covering calculus, linear algebra, differential equations, and applied mathematical methods used throughout the program.
Covers stress analysis, material behaviour under load, and mechanical design principles. Students learn to apply engineering mechanics to real-world structural and component design challenges.
Explores the laws of thermodynamics, heat transfer mechanisms, and energy conversion systems. This module provides the foundation for work in power generation, HVAC, and energy efficiency.
Introduces the principles of fluid statics and dynamics, flow measurement, and applications in piping systems, turbomachinery, and aerodynamics relevant to mechanical engineering practice.
Covers the kinematics and dynamics of mechanical systems, vibration analysis, and feedback control theory. Students learn to model, analyse, and design dynamic mechanical and control systems.
