The English, European Languages and Business Studies BA at the University of Latvia is an interdisciplinary program designed for students interested in advanced English studies, anglophone or Scandinavian culture, and general business. The program develops academic and professional competence in translation, editing, teaching, research, and intercultural and business communication applicable across local and international markets.

The program consists of three sub-programmes that students choose before starting their studies: English Language, English-Scandinavian Languages, and European Languages and Business Studies. Each sub-programme combines core English language and linguistics courses with specialised tracks, allowing you to tailor your studies to your career goals and interests.

Implemented in cooperation with the Faculty of Business, Management and Economics at the University of Latvia, this program equips graduates with high-level communicative competence in English and additional European languages such as French, Spanish, German, Swedish, or Norwegian. English Grammar and Lexicology

12 ECTS

Comprehensive study of English grammar structures and vocabulary systems, covering morphology, syntax, and word formation processes essential for advanced language proficiency.

English Phonetics and Phonology

6 ECTS

Analysis of the English sound system, including articulatory phonetics, phonological rules, stress and intonation patterns, and practical pronunciation training.

Introduction to Linguistics and English Language Studies

6 ECTS

Foundational course introducing key concepts in general and applied linguistics, language acquisition theories, and the history and development of the English language.

Text Analysis and Academic Writing

6 ECTS

Development of critical reading and analytical writing skills through the study of various text types, discourse analysis, and academic writing conventions for research purposes.

Business and Economics Principles

Introduction to fundamental business and economics concepts including microeconomics, macroeconomics, entrepreneurship, and intercultural business communication skills.

Admission Requirements
