Sports Science

Based on current developments, the field of sports science can be described as a combination of sports science subdisciplines, such as movement and training science, sports medicine, sports pedagogy, sports psychology, sports sociology, and sports history, with each subdiscipline making an independent and only partially interchangeable contribution to the central study objective. The subject of sports science is the problems and manifestations of sport, which are discussed and investigated using scientific guidelines and methods. Furthermore, the focus also extends to selected manifestations of movement culture. The sports science curriculum is supplemented by courses in the area of ​​theory and practice of physical activity, which focus on traditional sports (e.g. sports games) and courses that address current and contemporary trends (e.g. leisure and trend sports). The city and its cultural and leisure offerings are also impressive. This modern banking metropolis is centrally located and ranks fifth worldwide in terms of quality of life. In addition, there are many affiliated institutions such as a psychotherapeutic training outpatient clinic, a diagnostic facility for school children (“Mainkind”) and an interdisciplinary research facility with sociologists and economists (“CLBO”), as well as various cooperation partners such as the DIPF (German Institute for International Educational Research), the MPI or the Sigmund Freud Institute, which ensure the practical orientation of the studies.
