Psychology
University of Frankfurt (Goethe University Frankfurt), Germany
Psychology is a broadly based, empirically and scientifically oriented discipline that also incorporates many aspects of the humanities and social sciences (e.g., business administration, education, sociology). It deals with human behavior, experience, and consciousness in all areas and stages of life. The field has a highly international focus, and the literature is largely written in English. In addition to imparting fundamental methodological and diagnostic knowledge and psychological expertise, the program in Frankfurt offers small group sizes (15 or 30 participants) in seminars, project seminars, and practical exercises. As a so-called "polyvalent" Bachelor's program in Psychology, it provides the necessary prerequisites and knowledge that qualify for further qualification through an M.Sc. in Psychotherapy according to the Psychotherapists' Licensing Regulations. It also prepares students for other consecutive Master's programs in the field of psychology. During the orientation phase of the program, students are taught the fundamentals and insights into all areas of psychology. In the subsequent advanced phase, students choose their specialization either in "Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy" or "Work and Organizational Psychology and Educational Psychology." The strong foundation in basic subjects and the excellent opportunities for students to specialize in applied subjects are a major strength of psychology in Frankfurt. In addition, there are many affiliated institutions such as the Center for Psychotherapy with behavioral therapy and trauma outpatient clinic, a psychoanalytic university outpatient clinic, a diagnostic facility for school children (“Mainkind”) and an interdisciplinary research facility with sociologists and economists (“CLBO”), as well as various cooperation partners such as the DIPF (German Institute for International Educational Research), the Max Planck Institute and the Sigmund Freud Institute, which ensure the practice-orientation of the studies.
