The Bachelor of Science in Artificial Intelligence at FAU Erlangen-Nuremberg is an interdisciplinary English-language degree program in which students acquire fundamental knowledge in computer science, mathematics, and the ethical-philosophical contextualization of AI. Curriculum and Modules

The BSc AI curriculum is built on three foundational pillars: computer science, mathematics, and the ethical-philosophical contextualization of AI. These compulsory areas are supplemented by research- and application-oriented elective modules, allowing you to follow your interests and develop individual specializations across a wide range of AI topics.

Computer Science Fundamentals

Core Module

Covers essential programming, algorithms, data structures, and software engineering principles that form the computational backbone of artificial intelligence systems.

Mathematics for AI

Core Module

Provides rigorous training in linear algebra, calculus, probability theory, and statistics required for understanding and developing AI models and algorithms.

AI Foundations and Methods

Core Module

Introduces core AI concepts including machine learning, deep learning, large language models, symbolic AI, and subsymbolic AI approaches with both theoretical grounding and practical application.

Ethics and Philosophy of AI

Admission Requirements

Admission to the BSc Artificial Intelligence at FAU requires passing a qualification assessment process (Eignungsfeststellungsverfahren), which includes an online test in English covering mathematics and problem-solving skills. The application process is the same for all applicants regardless of nationality, and intake is only available for the winter semester.

EUR 300 per month (EUR 3,600 per year)

Awarded annually to talented students at FAU based on academic achievement (grades of 2.0 or better) and personal circumstances including volunteering and social engagement. Half is funded by private sponsors and half by the German federal government. Initially granted for two semesters with the possibility of annual renewal.
