Filmmaking MA

The MA Filmmaking at UEL offers a unique opportunity to develop both your creative vision and technical expertise. This Master’s degree in filmmaking is ideal for graduates in film studies, cultural and media studies, humanities, social sciences, art, and design. You’ll learn in a creative, collaborative environment, benefiting from leading film practitioners, theorists, and historians. Our strong industry links connect you to both the film industry and the art world. The programme focuses on creating a high-quality film in one of the following: Documentary, Narrative film, Video installation, Animation. Your final film will be ready for festivals, broadcast, VOD, or gallery exhibitions. The MA Filmmaking programme consists of three core modules: Narrative Cinema, which develops your skills in short film production; Professional Practice and Research Methods, which builds academic competencies for postgraduate study; and the Final Project, where you complete an independent piece of work. Optional modules include The Moving Image, focusing on experimental approaches; Audiovision, exploring sound design; Documentary Cinema, developing skills in non-fiction filmmaking; Media Industries Investigation, examining the broader context of film and media; and Screenwriting, teaching you to write scripts to industry standards.
