Economics BSc (Hons)

We have two four-year Economics courses: a BSc and an MA. The main differences between these are at Levels 1 and 2. We also have a three and a half year Economics - accelerated BSc (Hons) with a January start date available for Rest of UK and EU/International students.

Choose the BSc Economics route if your interests lean more towards management, mathematics, computing and the physical science based subjects.

Economists examine how societies attempt to make the best use of their scarce resources, so that they can advise governments, individuals, and companies on how to improve decisions and outcomes.

Traditionally economists advise on investment, inflation, interest rates, and production. Increasingly however, economics takes a wider focus with many economists examining climate change, inequality, and improving healthcare.

Course structure and options

We also offer a BSc Mathematics and Economics and we also offer Economics as part of the Scottish MA qualification structure. 

MA Economics

Both are an undergraduate qualifications and 4-years in duration. The compulsory modules studied are the same across the BSc and MA. However, the optional modules on the MA route would come more from the social sciences, including, history, politics, languages, psychology, geography. The optional modules on the BSc are more form the sciences and the School of Business itself. There is significant flexibility with the MA to study it alongside other subjects like those mentioned above.
