Business Administration (Professional Doctorate) DBA

DBA programmes are suited to individuals who seek intellectual challenge in applying theory to management or business-related problems. In contrast to PhDs, their focus is on management and business practice, using theory to help organisations change and innovate rather than on theoretical development and contribution.

We are offering a distinctive 4-year, part time doctoral degree in business administration to executives who seek to advance their professional careers through a programme of study that:

• will develop executives’ understanding of advanced conceptual and theoretical underpinnings of their chosen area of research in business and management
• enable executives to apply advanced theory and concepts to strategic issues and problems to enhance organisational performance and sustainability, drawing on the philosophy and methods of conventional and action research in business and management

The programme is delivered online, with only a very short residential requirement in Dundee (or other centres we may use for residential purposes). A key component of any professional doctorate is learning from the experience and careers of peers so the residential components will give you an opportunity to spend time with fellow students and build your network face-to-face.

Your learning focuses on areas such as leading Strategic Change, entrepreneurship and innovation, qualitative and quantitative methods in business management research, as well as research methodologies and literature reviews. These areas will be covered in years 1-2. A major component will also be your dissertation which will be completed in years 3-4.
