Overview
This is an object-related science that puts objects into their cultural, social, religious and political context. The program deals with objects that mostly originate from a religious context as well as with profane and religious architecture.
The core contents of the program include providing students with sound knowledge and understanding of the scientific foundations of Asian and Islamic Art History, the ability to write academically, an overview of the artworks, styles, and buildings of various geographic regions and their evolution, and sensibility for transcultural questions. In addition, students develop an understanding of the functions and meanings of artworks and architecture. They are also introduced to the topic of an extended concept of art, given an overview of the current debates in academia and society over art history and related disciplines, and they acquire the ability to exchange information, ideas, and solutions.
