Molecular Ecology
University of Bayreuth, Germany
Overview
The focus is on the molecular mechanisms of adaptation of plants, animals, and microorganisms to biotic and abiotic environmental factors, as well as the investigation of molecular interactions between organisms. The program is research-oriented and serves to deepen scientific and application-oriented qualifications. Students are taught the application of chemical-analytical, physiological-biochemical, molecular biological, biophysical, and biostatistical methods for the investigation and discussion of molecular ecological issues. The objects of study include prokaryotes, fungi, higher plants, arthropods, and vertebrates in terrestrial and aquatic (freshwater) ecosystems, as well as genetically modified organisms (e.g., transgenic plants, insects, and vertebrates).
