A collaboration between advanced skills, knowledge, and research in teaching and technology to prepare students for leadership roles in secondary communities.
Course Work
The 39-hour degree consists of 27 semester hours in the secondary education major and 12 hours in the composite minor. Majors courses include advanced curriculum and instructional training (15 hours) along with foundational coursework in educational technology (12 hours). A composite minor satisfies the remaining 12 hours of required coursework where electives may taken from across the department. This concentration is based on the current International Society for Technology in Education's (ISTE) standards for teaching with technology.

Program Mission
The mission of the Secondary Education Program is to prepare culturally responsive educators at an advanced level to meet the challenges of the 21st century by (a) enhancing instructional, leadership, inquiry, and collaborative expertise; (b) expanding knowledge, understanding, and application of current research; and (c) using technology to make advancements in the teaching-learning process.
Career Options
The program is designed for teachers who want to become leaders in instruction and technology on secondary school campuses, school districts, or in corporate or institutional settings. Graduates will be prepared to teach web-based technology apps, use technology to support student learning and provide professional development, mentoring and basic technical and instructional assistance to others.
Program Faculty
Educational technology faculty research includes K-12 technology integration, design and facilitation of online learning, strategies and principles of blended learning, online tools to support teaching and learning in a hybrid format, instructionally appropriate technology integration strategies within teacher education, digital technologies in makerspaces, and the role of reflective practice in teaching and learning. Secondary program faculty research includes models of professional and instructional development, teacher advocacy, pedagogical issues that address traumas associated with race, culture, gender and sexuality, and application of instructional theories to the classroom.
