About this Program

• Explore the history of art from a variety of periods and cultures.
• Gain hands-on experience in curatorial research and public engagement.
• Experience and work with the rich collections of the Syracuse University Art Museum, SU’s Special Collections Research Center, the Everson Museum of Art, and Light Work.
• Travel to New York City as a senior to learn about professional opportunities in the art world by meeting with curators, auctioneers, art gallerists, museum professionals and Art & Music Histories alumni.
• Study art history abroad at a Syracuse University center in Florence, Italy; Strasbourg, France; Madrid, Spain; or London, England.
• Receive individualized attention and mentoring from internationally recognized scholars.

B.A. in Art History

The B.A. degree in Art History gives students the skills to write, speak, and analyze art and visual culture, preparing them for a wide range of careers in such sectors as museums, galleries and the art market, education, cultural heritage and cultural management. Students take introductory surveys about the art of Europe, North America, Latin America, South and East Asia, as well as in-depth courses about key themes in the history of art and visual culture in these and other world regions. Students are encouraged to undertake internships or volunteer at the Special Collections Research Center and the SUArt Museum on campus.
