Respiratory Care
St. Catherine University Campus, United States
Overview
Clinical experiences are an essential component of St. Kate's respiratory care program and allow students to gain advanced knowledge and skills. Students complete approximately 900 hours of clinical work in a variety of settings, including neonatal, pediatric, and rehabilitation units, to name a few. The benefits of this experience are many, including:
Develop the skills and knowledge necessary to be successful in a career in respiratory care
Network with professionals in the respiratory care field
Get a feel for different settings in which respiratory care professionals work
Prepare for a leadership role
Graduates of the respiratory care program are eligible to take the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) credentialing examinations. Upon a passing score, you will receive a Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential. This allows graduates to apply to the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice to work as a licensed respiratory therapist in the state of Minnesota. Students receiving a high threshold passing score are able to take the second of two board exams, and after passing the second exam, the Clinical Simulation Exam (CSE), they are awarded the Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential. With our program, you can be confident that you'll be ready to enter the field upon graduation. Our comprehensive training covers all aspects of respiratory therapy, including breathing and life support techniques for diverse patient populations. By participating in life-support decision-making and assuming leadership positions, you'll develop the confidence and competence needed to make a positive impact on the lives of patients and their families. Many St. Kate's grads are in positions of leadership - including management and clinical education – at health systems throughout the Twin Cities, including Fairview, Allina, and North Memorial.
