Scotland's Rural College (SRUC) is a public land-based research institution focused on agriculture and life sciences, headquartered at the King's Buildings campus in Edinburgh. Established in 2012 through the merger of the Scottish Agricultural College (SAC) with Barony, Elmwood, and Oatridge Colleges, SRUC's heritage stretches back to 1899 when the West of Scotland Agricultural College was first founded. It is recognised as one of the largest institutions of its type in Europe, uniquely combining research, education, and consultancy.
SRUC operates six campuses across Scotland — in Aberdeen, Ayr, Barony (Dumfries), Elmwood (Cupar, Fife), King's Buildings (Edinburgh), and Oatridge (West Lothian) — along with eight farms and multiple research centres. Degrees have historically been awarded by the University of Edinburgh and the University of Glasgow, and since October 2024, SRUC has been able to award its own degrees. The institution offers hundreds of courses across more than 20 disciplines, from foundation level through to PhD.
Beyond teaching, SRUC's consulting division, SAC Consulting, works with more than 12,000 rural businesses and agricultural clients from 25 offices across Scotland and northern England. The institution's research division focuses on sustainable agriculture, animal welfare, food security, and environmental science, directly informing both policy and classroom teaching. SRUC has received three Queen's Anniversary Prizes, the highest honour that can be bestowed on UK universities and colleges.

For International Students
SRUC provides comprehensive guidance on Student Visa applications, CAS issuance, and UKVI compliance. International students must demonstrate sufficient funds covering tuition fees plus GBP 1,171 per month for up to nine months of maintenance.
All teaching and assessments are conducted in English. SRUC prefers the Academic IELTS exam as proof of English proficiency, and test scores must have been obtained within 24 months of the course start date.
