Saskatchewan Polytechnic's Business (Insurance) (Co-Op) Diploma prepares you for a rewarding career in Canada's thriving insurance industry. The program combines a strong first-year business foundation with specialized second-year insurance courses designed in partnership with Saskatchewan's insurance industry and the Insurance Institute of Canada.

Insurance is big business in Canada, and with more than 25 percent of the current workforce expected to retire in the coming years, there has never been a better time to enter this field. You will develop expertise in areas such as insurance against liability, insurance on property, loss adjusting, underwriting, and insurance broker and agent skills.

Saskatchewan Polytechnic is one of only nine colleges and universities in Canada to offer a dedicated insurance program and the only institution in Saskatchewan to do so. The co-operative education component allows you to gain paid, real-world work experience alongside industry leaders during your studies, giving you a competitive advantage upon graduation.

Curriculum & Modules

The Business (Insurance) Diploma is structured across two years. Year one provides a comprehensive business certificate covering core disciplines, while year two focuses on specialized insurance courses. The curriculum is developed with extensive input from Saskatchewan's insurance industry and the Insurance Institute of Canada.

Insurance Against Liability

Study the principles and practices of liability insurance, including third-party claims, negligence, and legal liability frameworks relevant to individuals and businesses.

Insurance on Property

Explore property insurance fundamentals including risk assessment, policy structures, coverage types, and claims processes for residential and commercial properties.

Insurance Broker/Agent Skills

Develop the professional skills needed to succeed as an insurance broker or agent, including client relationship management, needs analysis, and ethical selling practices.

Loss Adjusting

Academic Requirements

  • Year 2 (Insurance Diploma)Successful completion of at least 15 credit units from the Business Certificate (Year 1) program
  • Computer SkillsComputer experience using a Windows application is recommended
  • Alternative AdmissionApplicants without formal academic qualifications may be assessed for alternative admission based on evidence of probable success
  • Post-Secondary CreditsSome applicants may meet the admission grade level requirement using 15 approved post-secondary credits
