The Dentistry BDS at Queen Mary University of London is a five-year undergraduate programme delivered through the Institute of Dentistry, part of the prestigious Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry. Covers the biological structure and function of cells, major organs, and body systems with a focus on oral biology. Students learn anatomy, physiology, and basic dental sciences while beginning to develop clinical skills in simulation labs.

Clinical Practice and Professionalism

Core

Develops clinical and professional competencies through lectures, small group sessions, clinical skills training, and patient observation. Focuses on communication, teamwork, evidence-based dentistry, and ethical behaviour.

Population and Public Health

Core

Examines environmental and social factors that impact health, including the relationship between systemic health and oral health. Covers epidemiology, health promotion, and prevention principles in dentistry.

Dental Materials Science

Explores the properties and clinical applications of dental materials including polymers, metals, ceramics, and composites. Students learn about biocompatibility, functional properties, and appropriate material selection.

Clinical Dentistry and Patient Management

Admission Requirements

Entry to the Dentistry BDS programme is competitive. Applicants must demonstrate strong academic achievement in the sciences, satisfactory aptitude test performance, and suitability for a career in dentistry through a panel interview. All applications are processed through Uni4Edu.

  • A-LevelA*AA including Biology or Chemistry, plus a second science from Chemistry, Biology, Physics, or Mathematics. Results must be achieved in one sitting over no more than two years.

  • Aptitude TestUCAT required. Fourth decile or above; SJT Bands 1-3.
