Why North Park?

Students majoring in Biomedical Sciences participate in hands-on learning opportunities starting with their very first course. Access to the department’s cadaver lab and real-time technology elevates learning to a whole new level–preparing graduates for a range of scientific research careers, discovering important medical developments, and being part of positive change for improving the lives of others.

Accomplished and credentialed faculty teach students in our state-of-the-art lab how to plan, conduct, and evaluate experiments—all with an emphasis on safety. Supervised by faculty, students learn the importance of safety in the lab and how to comply with regulations.

Studying Biology at North Park

Biology examines the living world from the smallest cell to the human body to complex ecosystems. Hands-on laboratory components and in-depth field experiences solidify the connections between theory and practice.

Biomedical Sciences Student Learning Outcomes

1. Students will demonstrate knowledge of the central dogma of biology and predict outcomes when the process malfunctions.
2. Students will demonstrate ability to use evolutionary theory and related equations to model and predict population change or stability.
3. Students will demonstrate ability to evaluate the impact of structure/part modification on a biological system and/or relationships between systems.
4. Students will demonstrate application of the formal practices of observation, experimentation, and hypothesis testing.
5. Students will demonstrate ability to evaluate pertinent values to ethical dilemmas using multiple ethical frameworks.
6. Students will demonstrate ability to communicate knowledge about a research topic including organization, critical analysis, content, presentation, formatting, and stylistic choices.
